Cloudy with a Chance of Cantaloupe

I am constantly telling my kids to back up and give mom some room.  Wherever I am you can bet my kids are within five feet of me.  If there is ever a fire and I have to grab the kids quickly and run out of the house we will all be ready.  I can't ever convince them (short of tying them to a chair) that it is okay to not know what Mommy is doing every second of the day.  Go play by yourselves for heaven's sake!  Well I think I finally taught one of them a lesson on this point.  The other day I'm sitting at our breakfast bar eating cantaloupe.  Maddie is crawling under the stool I'm sitting on and threatening every five seconds to accidentally topple us both over.  Due to my poor fine motor skills, a piece of cantaloupe popped out of mouth, fell, and hit Maddie squarely in the head.  She paused, looked up and saw me with my fork in mid-air and immediately began to scream.  Obviously her two year old mind told her, "Your mother just hit you in the head with a piece of fruit!!  Protest!"  I ignored her screams (it didn't hurt) and told all the kids, who of course were standing within five feet of me when it happened.  "This is what happens when you don't give Mom some space.  Be aware, because next time it could be a lot heavier!"

Great blog! I've read a few posts here today, and wanted to leave at least one comment. I'll be back!
